SPANISH hORSES RELEASE NEW SINGLE: ‘gREAT’

Spanish Horses released their newest single Great on October 10. After 10 months of focusing on readjusting to life in London, as the band collectively moved there from Paris, the band is always writing music. However, very few of those songs have made it to release. part of the band’s journey to slow down their music, the song begins with a very slow and simple drum line, transitions to a  faster pace, and then winds down again towards the end. I asked the band’s lead singer Tom Onezime a few questions about the new single.

London rock band, Spanish Horses interviewed by Bella Berry for Noize Magazine on their new single "Great" October 2025

What is the theme/message you’re trying to get across with ‘Great’?

This song kind of just “appeared” in our studio. Things went very quickly. Not much thought process went into the lyrics, but I’d say the themes are quite clear: It’s about time passing and not unlocking your full potential. It’s about facing failure and trying to keep faith.

Has the move to London inspired your songwriting at all? Has it inspired the single specifically or other projects?

It absolutely has inspired us. This city forces you to become better, the level here is just mind-blowing. You constantly have to try and keep up. It’s fantastic.

The city is also amazing to write about, there are so many streets and landmarks you can reference, that adds a nice touch to your songs when people can situate themselves in a place.

The move has also given us a new sense of purpose, I guess we try to capture that spirit in our songwriting.

Is the change of pace throughout the song a metaphor for anything?

It’s definitely not intentional, but I guess it is! I’m quite happy about this one because the lyrics really work with the dynamics of the song.

What do you think you’ve done with this song that’s different to anything you’ve done with past work?

I’m not sure, so much has been written since our last EP, but nothing has been released, so it’s hard to situate the changes. We really try to work with flow and less thought I’d say. Space and feel. I think we’re getting better.

What do you want listeners to know about ‘Great’?

We think it’s special and we’re just very happy to be able to share it with you all. There are more releases to come. So make sure to keep an eye out!

Overall the song shows the direction that the band is heading in, sonically. Great marks the beginning of the band’s new era. It will be interesting to see what else the band comes up with.
